Following are some tips to avoid inheriting disorders :

  1. Cut down the extra sugar and processed food intake: Sugary drinks like sodas, fruit juices, and refined grains like white rice, refined flour & its products. Take fresh homemade juices and fresh lime water and tea or coffee without sugar.

  2. Replace refined grains with whole grains: The real grains are whole grains that are not deprived of nutrients during processing. The food made from whole wheat is good but whole grains like quinoa, oatmeal, brown rice, and farro are best. Swap out the starchy vegetables like colocasia and potato with the whole grains is a better option to go for. Eating whole-grain foods ensures that you have an ample supply of dietary fiber.

  3. Add on the fiber: High fiber includes most of the vegetables, fruits, legumes like lentils, beans, chickpeas, peas, edamame. High fiber helps you weigh less and have a lower risk of diabetes and thyroid.

  4. Cut down the bad fats and opt for healthier fats: Fat is not necessarily bad for you but what type of fat you’re eating really does matter. Saturated fats, particularly from meats, are associated with an increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, and some forms of cancer. Reduce the consumption of saturated fats, which come mainly from animal products such as meat and cheese, and trans fats, which take the form of hydrogenated oils in processed foods and many margarines. Instead, choose fats that help reduce LDL cholesterol. These include monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats from Plant oils (vegetable oils), such as extra-virgin olive oil and canola oil, which carry less risk. Omega-3 fats in walnuts, flax seeds, and fish, are sources of healthy fats.

  5. Eat less meat, and avoid processed red meat: People who eat processed red meat are more prone to mismanaged levels of thyroid and blood sugar glucose. Those who don’t eat red meat at all, but do eat eggs, dairy, chicken, and fish, are significantly capable of avoiding inheriting disorders.

  6. Avoid excessive drinking and smoking: Limit the amount of alcohol you consume and smoking as these lifestyle changes play a major role in avoiding any kind of diseases.

  7. Manage your weight: Being overweight can make you more prone to catch inheriting disorders at an early age. If overweight, losing weight may aid in balancing hormones and allowing the body to keep you away from diabetes and thyroid with regular physical activity.
