I Made These 5 Simple Changes to My Lifestyle and Lost 17 Kilos

Maintaining a healthy weight and lifestyle is important for all of us. For some people, it takes time to realize this. It’s never too late to take the first step toward a healthy and balanced lifestyle. I took mine.

Having a sedentary lifestyle led me to gain weight and develop diabetes. This was also due to poor nutrition. I had no one around me who could guide me on nutrition. It was at this point that I began looking for a qualified doctor and nutritionist.

During my search for holistic wellness, I found Dr. Shikha Sharma’s Vedique Diet Programme, which includes 3 steps to Good Health– Assessment (Blood test, metabolic analysis & body Prakriti analysis), Consultation (a one-on-one counseling session will be done with one of BAMS certified doctors), and Progress (to monitor and continuously motivate you).

When I started with the Vedique diet programme, the nutritionist advised me to make a few small, steady, and simple changes in my diet and lifestyle to control sugar levels and lose weight.

Here are 5 simple changes that helped me –

  1. Nutritious Diet all the Time-  

Eat home-cooked, nutritious food at all times. I follow the Vedique diet trough Vedique diet app. My diet plan for the day- is fresh fruits and a protein-rich breakfast. For lunch, I take nonstarchy vegetables (okra, Tori, lauki, etc), Mix Roti (besan+aata), and Tea time snacks including Tea & Peanuts. Followed by dinner that has tomato soup, 1 roti (oats), and Godhi ki sabzi. And a lot of water during the day.

Every day I have a different food menu and daily updated diets on Vedique App.

  1. Taking Herbs 

An Ayurvedic diet includes herbs for diabetes and weight loss. Herbs are the ancient way of treating the disease. For Diabetes and weight loss management, I was suggested – Soaked Methi or fenugreek seeds water to drink first thing in the morning. Followed by daytime and night herbs(Triphala) also.

  1. Portion control

Eat in moderation and watch your portions are the of the most important things my nutritionist has told me while following the Vedique diet.

I used to watch portion sizes, even when having dessert by choosing a single small-size cake or sweet. Also, I was suggested to take time to chew your food thoroughly, and start by offering yourself half as much food as you normally would. I used to eat carefully.

  1. Doing Exercise

The Vedique diet combined with physical activity to balance the Prakriti and doshas of the body has helped me in my Weight Loss transformation journey and controlled diabetes levels. I used to do exercise regularly with a mix of light, moderate and intense workout sessions. 10,000 steps in a day, along with at least 1 hour/day of exercise routine and physically active whole day gave me good weight loss results.

I did not overdo it and balanced my weight by increasing my muscle mass. And also gave rest to my body as advised by the doctor.

  1. Tips by Nutritionists

Here are some tips that proved effective throughout the transformation process:


  • Sleep well– I made sure to take 6-8hrs of sleep. This has helped me feel energized and motivated throughout the day.
  •  Reduce stress– stress leads to a lot of health problems and diabetes is no exception. It imbalances hormones and cause unwanted weight gain. For a healthy and balanced lifestyle, managing stress is a must.
  • Never give up is a piece of advice that I found to be successful.
  • Try to limit your intake of sweets, and make your final meal as light as possible.
  • And don’t set unrealistic goals. Take your time because, as you are aware, the race is won by the cautious.


Even though I indulged in cheat meals, I never gave up. Whenever I felt tempted to cheat, I followed the cheat meal diet chart provided in the weight loss and diabetes management program. It has recipes that satisfy my cravings and taste buds as well.

The Vedique Diet programme by Dr. Shikha Sharma helped me lose weight from 17 kgs. It took me about 70 days to lose much weight. I feel great, proud, and strong now.
