It is the time of the new year again! When we start to think about dieting trends in a new year, we have another chance to look back at the diet and wellness trends that capture our attention in 2019.

Plenty of trends emerged this year for the hunt for good health. Let’s look at the most popular diet craze that will fascinate us in 2020 and can be incorporated in  schedules:

1. Mindful Eating:

Being healthy is all about a balance between body and mind, eating what you love and trusting yourself how much is enough for you. An easy approach for mindful eating is to eat a balanced diet.

2. Carbs are not your enemy:

Complex carbs are considered to be rich in fibre and are good for health, whereas simple carbs aren’t doing any good favor. Examples of simple carbs include table sugar, products with white flour, chocolate, jam, and biscuits. Cutting down Complex carbs leads to energy deprivation because the simplest task such as breathing requires energy, and our body relies on carbohydrates as their main fuel. Our brain requires glucose as its energy source.

3. Be a water lover :

It is advisable to drink 2-3 Litres of water every day to stay hydrated. Water is beneficial as it forms a major part of our body. It is required for regular bowel movements.  Water flushes out toxins from the body.

4.Gut wellness through probiotics:

Probiotics are live microorganisms (beneficial bacteria) that provide health benefits to the host when consumed. Some examples of probiotics include yogurt, kefir, tempeh, and traditional buttermilk.

5. Wheat or Gluten-Free Substitutes:

Alternative flour has become more mainstream as more people try trendy diets that avoid wheat flour like going gluten-free or paleo and consumers try to “boost their bake” with more protein and fiber. A mixture of healthy high fibre flour along with wheat or substitution of wheat by individual Flour such as Barley Flour, Bajra Flour, Quinoa Flour, and Ragi are in and will hit the market in 2020.

6. The unstoppable rise of plant foods:

As both micro and macro level, meat-free eating is a trend which has shown absolutely no sign of slowing down. Customers are adopting flexitarian lifestyles and new plant-based products. Example: pea milk made from yellow split peas, is the next big plant mill which has one of the lowest environmental footprints.

Thus Vitamin B3 and Vitamin E rich food and supplements are in trends like phytoceramides, butternut squash, avocados, walnuts, and sunflower seeds.

7. Emerging Flavours and Ingredients:

  • Maca: This vegetable is native to Peru and boosts various functional benefits including boosting energy and immunity.

  • Cacao: Elevates mood and provides many health benefits including antioxidants, iron, calcium, magnesium and it is found in desserts, but its appearance more in savory items and protein rubs.

8. Meditating for a while:

This spiritual practice is not a passing fad that improves the mind and soul thus helps in improving the quality of life. It lets you focus on the mind and neglecting the running thoughts. 

9. Fasting and Eating methods:

Eating with time restriction not only helps in weight management but also has many health benefits. It includes consuming all the nutritious food in a restricted time window and fasting for the rest. This flushes out all toxins from the body and boosts metabolism also.

10. Sleep is a Priority:

Last but not least It is found that poor sleep habits increase the body’s energy needs. 7- 8 hours of sleep is adequate for mental wellbeing. Lack of sleep is known to be a contributing factor for many chronic health conditions including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity.
