Gurpreet’s Weight Loss Journey: Finding Strength, Health, and Happiness

For Gurpreet, weight loss wasn’t just about looking better—it was about reclaiming her health and rediscovering joy in daily life. A busy mother dealing with hormonal imbalances, water retention, and fatigue, she felt trapped in a cycle of low energy and self-doubt which was hard to get out of. Late one night, as she scrolled through Facebook, an ad for One Health by Dr Shikha Sharma appeared on Gurpreet’s feed. She felt there was something genuine about it that caught her attention. Feeling confused about where to begin, she decided it was worth a shot.

Mornings started with a warm glass of jeera (cumin) water or coriander seed water. "It wasn’t magic, but within a week, I noticed a difference," she says. "I felt lighter and less bloated."

Breakfast became a time she enjoyed as they were quick to make, tasty and nourishing.. Besan (gram flour) cheelas paired with a cup of green tea and lemon quickly became her favorite way to start the day. Preparing these recipes was so simple that it didn't seem like a chore but became an enjoyable process.

Learning to Listen to Her Body

Gurpreet’s journey wasn’t just about cutting calories or spending hours on exercise. "It wasn’t about starving myself, It was about giving my body what it really needed."

Her meals focused on balanced nutrition—whole grains, seasonal vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Lunch was typically one multigrain roti, subzi and a big bowl of salad. Dinner was lighter, with comforting dishes like mung dal khichdi or warm soups paired with veggies.

She also embraced snacks, but with a twist. "I used to crave junk food, but my dietitian suggested healthier options. Now, I reach for mixed seeds like pumpkin and sunflower or a piece of dark chocolate when I crave something. As they are crunchy, delicious and keep me full for longer.”

Navigating Challenges with Grace

Her diet plan wasn’t rigid; it was flexible and personalized. "If I had a festival or a trip coming up, my dietitian would alter my plan to fit the occasion. It never felt like I was missing out."

Whether it was a festive season or a family trip, Gurpreet always had a plan. Her dietitian even gave her a customised travel meal guide so she wouldn’t feel lost and off track. Her dietitian’s practical approach to life made the journey easier to follow and made Gurpreet trust the process even more.

The Emotional Wins

As the kilos came off, Gurpreet found herself again. "It wasn’t just about the weight—I felt lighter in my mind too," she shares. One of her happiest moments came when she realised that no dresses in her wardrobe were tight on her. That day, she regained her confidence. Not just her weight, but the new diet helped reduce her hair fall and made her skin glow as well. She is elated on how many compliments she gets on her transformation.

Cheat days were also a small but meaningful part of Gurpreet’s journey. Instead of being told to completely avoid her favorite foods, she was encouraged to enjoy them occasionally, guilt-free. "I remember when I hit a big milestone, I asked if I could celebrate with a cheat meal." Her dietitian didn’t just say yes—she made it part of the plan. That one meal felt like a reward for her hard work and pushed her to move forward. These moments of balance helped her stay motivated and reminded Gurpreet that weight loss doesn’t have to mean giving up the things you love. It’s about finding balance and enjoying the journey.

Finding Balance with Supplements

The most important point in Gurpreet’s journey was understanding her body’s unique needs. Every body has a unique composition and mechanism. After getting blood tests done, she came to know about her deficiencies in Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, and magnesium. "I used to struggle with sleep and felt tired no matter how much I rested," she says.

Sometimes our normal diet cannot fulfill our body's demands and in such situations supplements can help us bridge the gap. "Magnesium improved my sleep, and my energy levels shot up once I started taking Vitamin B12. These supplements paired with a balanced diet gave her body the extra boost that it needed. It obviously did not happen overnight but she is really happy that she decided to treat her body from the inside out.

Food, Family, and a New Perspective

For Gurpreet, food became a source of joy rather than guilt. She learned to make healthier versions of her favourite dishes—like using oats to make pancakes or baking sweet potato fries instead of frying them.

Even her family got involved. "We all started eating healthier together. My kids loved the roasted nuts and seeds I kept around, and my husband started enjoying salads with me," she shares. "It became less about ‘my diet’ and more about how we could all be healthier."

Today, at 68 kilograms, Gurpreet is glowing with confidence. She still has a few more kilos to lose but she has already won. "It’s not just about the weight—it’s about how I feel in my own skin."

Her advice to others is to start small. Be kind to yourself. And remember, it’s not about perfection; it’s about progress."
